All alternative platforms seem to get something of a lunatic fringe, even Windows probably has one, but they don't need to be very evangelistic.
If the platform dies, then the lunatics are likely to be the only ones left.
To illustrate, I'll relate a story of an employee of some big computer store.
A nice family walked in wanting a first computer, naturally, being a Mac person he gently directed them towards Apple, away from the cheap PCs. As they were getting interested an overweight and underwashed Mac geek appeared, and went uninvited into a rant about how the Mac was superior, and how MS were evil, the poor sales guy could see the family looking for an escape route, needless to say they didn't buy a Mac (Or anything for that matter)
