An Open Letter To Amiga and the MorphOS Team

Gregg. ..

So you want to build AmigaOS-PPC?

The opinionated are clamouring, the agents provocateurs are whispering, the cynics are sneering, the betrayed are wailing, bedlam beckons.

Stop. Breathe deeply. Relax. Look at the options soberly and objectively. Technologically speaking, what's the best choice? If it's MorphOS, how do you take that option?

What is the obstacle? Fundamentally, it seems there is a clash of business models - real businessmen, real software developers, don't let personalities get in the way of a high-quality product. I don't know the details of the disagreement, but I do know that if it is the right thing to do, there is a way to do it. A business model is a tool; it has little implicit value, but is merely a way of building what you want. If the hammer won't drive the screws, get a screwdriver, not nails.

Sure, you know all this, but where has that got you? From out here, nobody inside is having much fun; light the fire, pass the brandy, talk like gentlemen. It'll make us feel all warm and fuzzy, at least.

Compromise, in the true spirit of the word, is the essence. Constructive compromise, where each party gains more than it gives. Amiga gains a proven, high-quality base, a fast path for AmigaOS-PPC, and credit for technical and business acumen. MorphOS gain a business partner to support and distribute their product, and continued involvement in the future of the Amiga. You both gain the immediate thanks of the technologically discerning, and a wider and less-fractured user base in the future.

Of course, MorphOS per se will not be AmigaOS-PPC, but it can be the foundation for it. This approach does not preclude working with other contributors, whatever others may say.

Shut them out. Stop, breathe, relax...

Don't let the trouble-makers lead you astray. Don't fail to see the wood for the trees. Don't compromise to lose.

Do the right thing.

Do the Amiga thing.

Regards,

Gregg
