In the article it said that 4 cores are just now going below $100. Can 2 4 core CPUs be used effectively on the same motherboard?

These 6 core CPUs coming out next year will cost a whopper!

Depends what you're doing and if your motherboard supports dual cpu's - the vast majority don't.

Of those that do, most are strictly server boards, with a handful of specialist workstation boards usually only available as complete systems from vendors who sell for that market space.

You won't find many that sell in general user space.

When they first come out, sure. But like all technology that price point will come down rapidly after around 6 months.

What I find amazing with these multicores is that they are per clock faster then my old (and long gone) Athlon64-3000 but only use about a tenth of the electrical power per core.
