Assuming "HyperionMP" is still Ben Hermans then he wasn't able to understand the plain text of one of the world's most famous copyright licenses. You don't want him interpreting the rules of a board game let alone a legal settlement.

The idea that a secret settlement between two companies run by idiots makes the copyright and trademark landscape for Amiga hobbyists simpler will have RISC OS hobbyists rolling in the aisles.

You mean the one that successfully obtained AmigaOS4 from Amiga Inc.?

Yeah, it only got him AOS4.x exclusivity, oh, did I forget to mention 5.x, 6.x, 7.x, ... _and also_ 3.1 too!

Amiga Inc. ARE idiots, the other isn't.

It's okay, they're actually ignoring us at this juncture.

You have piqued my curiosity. Do you have any suggested reading on the trials and tribulations of RISC OS?

AFAIK HyperionMP is no longer Benjamin Hermans but Evert Carton or Timothy de Goote using his old account.

Drobe's archive has articles from years of acrimony between the different companies which owned rights to RISC OS. Here's a typical example

http://www.drobe.co.uk/article.php?id=2372

Yes, you're reading correctly, there is a company called "RISCOS Ltd" and one named "RISCOS Open Ltd" and there are separately developed operating systems (ie one is not the successor to the other) named RISCOS 5 and RISCOS 6 created by separate teams.

Tee hee. I'm surprised they haven't gone after each other on trademark grounds. (Or maybe they have?)

I especially like that the one responsible for RISCOS 6 is trying to pull an 'all your base are belong to us' move and claim that their past IP purchase means they also own RISCOS 5 lock stock and barrel. I imagine they're feeling pretty threatened by the idea of an open source version of RISCOS.

Oh, that's just crazy talk.

(I'm not saying it isn't true, but the activities are ridiculous and I would _never_ engage in similar activities. No, not me, I would not.)
